Dusting Furniture

Dusting our furniture is an important task that many of us know we should do, but do not take the time to accomplish.  Cleaning, in general, tends to be one of tasks many of our customers leave as one of their last priorities.  That is why they enlist our services to perform the task.  This does not mean that they do not think it is important.  It is just after a hard day of work and other “have to dos”, they do not want to come home and yet take on one more additional task.  This being said, dusting is not a task that should be ignored in your household.  It can lead to problems that may not have crossed your mind.

Dusting Is Important!

Did you know the average home accumulates about 40 pounds of dust in a year? There is a saying that goes “A house becomes a home when you can write “I love you” on the furniture.”  This may be so, but it is not something you want to leave for too long.

Dusting is one of those chores that we all know needs to be done, but somehow we have a hard time getting to it.  Dusting your furniture in your home and business office can give you great health benefits. An allergy to dust mites can cause chronic congestion or even asthma.

98% of dust allergens are inhaled from the bedroom and bed areas.  Pillows and mattresses should be covered with dust proof covers.  Bedding should be washed bi-weekly with hot water.  A microfiber dusting product and damp rag are better for dusting than a dry cloth.  Vacuum cleaners with double-layered microfilter bag or high efficiency Hepa filters will help remove dust from carpet and upholstered furniture. Bedrooms should be cleaned once a week and ceiling fixtures such as fans and lights should also be dusted. Today’s homes are contaminated by a wide variety of Modern pollutants:  There are pesticides, hydrocarbons, synthetic chemicals, flame-retardants, paint and heavy metals and PBDEs. Dust gives these toxins something to stick to so our exposure is prolonged. Studies have found that controlling dust and maintaining a somewhat dust free home reduces our exposure to household toxins. Hire A Clean Vision to help control the amount of dust that exists in your home and on your furniture.  This way you will have more time and a cleaner environment in which to exist and enjoy your life.

Sometimes when we are dusting furniture, we have to be careful.  Some furniture is older and in need of repair.  Other pieces need to be replaced.  We tread cautiously when dusting these pieces of furniture and sometimes we will not touch them at all as to not cause damage.  The problem is customers understand this reasoning, but still want it to be cleaned.  They just want their furniture to work the way it used to when it was new.  Other times, they wish they could just replace it with furniture that is of better or existing quality.  Often, they say, like many of us do in our throw away culture, “They don’t make things like they used to!”  Well, I have good news!  A Clean Vision knows a very talented furniture builder.  He is easily capable of fixing your furniture to act and look like new or to make you a custom new piece if that is just what you desire.  His name is Phil Fortin and his company’s name is The Whole Tree.  If you are interested in his contact info, please click on his name or contact our office for more information.
