Cleaning for allergy relief is a very effective way to help you start to feel better.

  • Vacuum once or twice a week.  Make sure you vacuum regularly to keep dust and dirt at a minimum in your household.  Having dirty floors will make for worse air quality in your home and that will make it harder for you to breathe. For every time you vacuum, you are removing the possibility of that dust and dirt to end up in the air. Vacuuming your house regularly will make for less matter that can ruin your air quality and keep away additional unpleasant nights of sleep.
  • Remove clutter. Stacked boxes or piles of clothing can trap dust and hide allergens like dust mites housed within these hidden dust bunnies.
  • Wear a mask. Although cleaning will remove allergens, it will also kick others up into the air for a period of time.  When you’re done with your housework, leave the house for a few hours. It will limit your exposure to these allergens.
  • Keep the bathroom free of mold. Scrub the tile regularly. Don’t forget the shower curtain, too. You may be able to toss it in the washing machine or replacing every 6-12 months may also be necessary if it gets too bad.
  • Wash sheets weekly in hot water. Make sure it’s at least 130 F. That’s hot enough to kill dust mites. If your child has allergies, do the same with stuffed animals.  
  • Don’t use scented cleaners or detergents. If you have allergies, the fragrances in cleaners can trigger symptoms. Look for fragrance-free products instead.
  • Don’t air-dry laundry. Clothing left outside will pick up pollen and mold. Use the clothes dryer instead.
  • Use a mop when cleaning. A mop will trap further allergens into it and take them out of your home.
  • Clean outside entryways. Sweep or vacuum. The cleaner your path or patio is, the less likely someone is to track more allergens into your home.
  • Hire a cleaner to clean your home. If your allergies are so bad that you can’t handle the dust and dirt being kicked into the air during this process, then it may be best to have a cleaning company take care of it for you.  This way the air can settle while you away and you can enjoy a cleaner more allergen free home when you get back. Cleaning for allergy relief can surely be a worthwhile process to help control your symptoms and live a better life.
