Home Cleaning Tips10 Ways to Cut Your House Chores Time in Half

Home Cleaning Tips from a Home Cleaning Professional

Here are a series of home cleaning tips that will help you to save time. They are practical and easy to implement.

1. Include the Family
Everyone makes the mess, so everyone should help clean it. A study conducted by the University of Minnesota said that the best predictor of a child’s success is the age at which he or she begins helping with household chores.

Now I find that very interesting.

2. Assign Cleaning Tasks
Ensure that nothing gets overlooked by assigning jobs to each family member. Don’t worry too much if a particular family member does not like a particular task. Find tasks that work for everyone. The goal is to save time by assigning tasks and not to get into arguments about who does what.

3. Set a Clock for 15 Minutes
Tackle a bit of the regular cleaning every day. There is no need to save all the household chores and cleaning tasks for the weekend. If you get good at this then you may end up with many free weekends and a clean home!

4. Eliminate Clutter
The less you have, the less you have to clean. An uncluttered home also enables you to be more efficient in general.

5. Tackle the Fridge in Intervals
Clean your refrigerator one shelf at a time. When any shelf is nearly empty, remove the items and pull out the shelf and take it to the sink for a fast once-over. With quick hits like this, you’ll never have to clean the entire refrigerator which is a time-consuming task.

6. Clean Up Stains Fast
If you let a stain set then it takes much more time to clean it. Keep a dab-on spot remover in the kitchen to quickly blot food spills or puppy stains, or grass stains when the kids traipse in from outside.

7. Keep Proper Cleaning Tools and Supplies at the Ready
Having all the tools and cleaning products you need in a convenient location means you won’t waste time looking in the kitchen cabinet, then under the kitchen sink or under the bathroom sink or perhaps even in the basement for what you need.

All the searching and walking back and forth wastes time. If you buy in bulk then you can put cleaning products in smaller containers and keep them in strategic places in your home to save even more time. The larger containers can be kept in the basement.

8. Battle Bathroom Mold
Mold haunts bathrooms that aren’t well-ventilated because water remains on the walls after showering. Use hydrogen peroxide in a trigger-spray bottle to battle mold and mildew. Spray it on, let it sit 3 to 5 minutes, and it will kill the fungus.

To keep mold from coming back, use a fan when showering. Let the fan run for a few minutes after the shower to remove the extra moisture from the air.

You may also want to keep a squeegee in the bathroom and take a minute to squeegee the water off the tile walls and shower door.

9. Defeat Mineral Deposits
If mineral deposits from hard water have stained your plumbing fixtures, don’t clean them with bristle brushes or pads. They can scratch your fixtures. Instead, use white vinegar. Pour some on a clean cloth and wipe the faucets. It doesn’t take much effort to make them sparkle.

10. Clean the Microwave Like a Champion
The inside of your microwave can look like a bomb went off inside from one bad event. If you let it sit for a time then inside can be very tough to clean.

First, cover anything you put in the microwave with plastic wrap (prevention goes a long way). If you overheat something then it will be contained within the dish or bowl instead of being plastered to the inside.

If you need to clean up something tough then you can get the microwave to help. Put a coffee cup full of water in the microwave and heat it up until it’s boiling hot. This creates moisture that loosens up anything on the top, sides, or bottom of the microwave.

Then take a damp cloth and wipe the surfaces clean. It is sure to help and will save some time.
